Today is World Photo Day. With so many “days” designated, along the lines of “world donut day,” I understand why this one might elicit groans. But, I gave it some thought.

World Photo Day is one that connects with me. This weekend, I sat down with my morning coffee to browse through an old photo album. Each picture took me on a journey of re-living a moment in my life. I was transported back to that time, that feeling, that place.

In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson approved a resolution that made Father’s Day a nationwide holiday. On Sunday June 16th, we will take a day to officially celebrate fathers. Special meals, cards, gifts and phone calls show thanks to our dads in a fine tradition. But, like many holidays, it’s only a marker of a sentiment we feel all year round.

Memorial Day 2019 is almost here, and I have thought about its meaning a great deal this year. While the holiday is considered the unofficial start of summer and kicks off a fun-filled and much-anticipated season for many, it was created to honor Americans who have died in service to their country. After all, more than 1.35 million members of the armed services have lost their lives in conflict.

Everyday should be Mother’s Day but as the official Mother’s Day is upon us, I took a moment to pause and reflect on the significance of the important role a mother plays in all our lives. Mother’s Day is celebrated in 40 countries around the world — because the work of a mother is precious in any culture.

With spring here, many of us feel a sense of renewal, rebirth and, even here in Southern California, an appreciation for the splendor of seasonal changes. In the Los Angeles area, as it gets warmer, there’s a certain excitement in the air as beach season gets underway. As the first brave spring breakers dip into the still-chilly ocean, we marvel at the magnificence and beauty of our coastal paradise
